On Tuesday, comedian and actor Steve Martin responded to suggestions that he should portray Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), following Walz’s selection as Vice President Harris’s running mate. Martin joked about the prospect on Threads, saying, “I just learned that Tim Walz wants to go on the road with Marty Short.”
Harris and Walz were officially confirmed on Tuesday as the Democratic ticket for the upcoming November election, where they will face former President Trump. This move comes after a tumultuous period for the Democratic Party, which saw President Biden withdraw from the race last month and endorse Harris as his successor.
Given Martin’s resemblance to Walz, many online have suggested that the SNL veteran should take on the role of the Minnesota governor. Additionally, reports indicate that Maya Rudolph, another former “SNL” cast member, is set to return to portray Harris.
Rudolph previously shared an anecdote from 2022 about meeting Harris and her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, at a private dinner. She recounted that Emhoff was thrilled by the presence of “two Kamalas” at the event.
