In just a day since their release, the Harris-Walz campaign has confirmed that nearly $1 million worth of “Harris Walz” camo hats have sold out. The campaign proudly announced the hats on their online store, declaring, “You asked, we answered,” and dubbing them as “the most iconic political hat in America.”
Initially, 3,000 of these hats were produced, and they sold out in under 30 minutes. Priced at $40 each, the hats are both American and union made. The announcement of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) as Vice President Harris’s running mate came on Tuesday. The announcement video featured Walz in camo attire at his St. Paul home.
Online reactions quickly focused on the camo hat, leading to Walz being playfully dubbed the “Midwest Princess,” referencing a pop culture connection to Chappell Roan’s merchandise, which features a similar hat.
Teen Vogue even speculated on the impact of the camo hat, pondering if it might redefine the symbolism of political hats, as red hats have become emblematic of former President Trump and his supporters. According to the campaign, the hat design was inspired directly by Walz, who wore a camo hat in his video call with Harris.
After his first rally in Philadelphia with Harris, Walz shared a photo of himself wearing the hat, noting that he was “capping off the night.” The campaign ensured that the hats were printed in Pennsylvania, allowing Walz and his family to receive some of the first hats.
