On Thursday, former President Donald J. Trump shared an astonishing anecdote about a harrowing helicopter ride with Willie Brown, the former San Francisco mayor and ex-boyfriend of Vice President Kamala Harris.
However, there were several inaccuracies in Trump’s tale. Firstly, it wasn’t Willie Brown who was aboard the helicopter but rather Jerry Brown, the former governor of California, who looks nothing like Willie Brown. Additionally, contrary to Trump’s account, there was no emergency landing, and the helicopter was never in any peril, as confirmed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, who was also present on the flight.
Jerry Brown, who completed his term as governor in January 2019, stated through a spokesperson, “There was no emergency landing and no mention of Kamala Harris.” Gov. Newsom dismissed Trump’s story as completely false, expressing his disbelief with laughter.
Trump’s misleading narrative emerged during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, following a reporter’s question about Kamala Harris’s past relationship with Willie Brown and its potential impact on her career.
The couple dated in 1994 and 1995 when Harris was a prosecutor and Brown was the Speaker of the California State Assembly. Despite their past, Brown was and remains married to Blanche Brown, though they have lived separately for many years.
