Now serving his second term as governor and having previously spent 12 years in Congress, Walz has been introduced to the public through various roles, including as a football coach, educator, and member of the Army National Guard.
Floyd has been impressed by Walz’s leadership for many years. He views Walz’s decision to appoint Attorney General Keith Ellison to prosecute the officers involved in his brother’s death as a defining moment of justice that led to the convictions of all four officers. “Initially, he appeared as just another politician, but his choice of Ellison demonstrated his genuine commitment to justice,” Floyd noted.
Additionally, Floyd was moved by Walz’s attendance at Daunte Wright’s funeral in April 2022, following Wright’s fatal shooting by a Minnesota police officer. “His gesture showed real empathy and unity,” Floyd remarked.
Floyd was initially surprised and then elated when Walz was named as a potential vice presidential candidate, and he was thrilled to see Walz chosen for the role. “I am eager to support him in any way possible and contribute to his campaign,” Floyd said, indicating his willingness to assist on the campaign trail.
