On Tuesday, the Teamsters National Black Caucus (TNBC) declared its endorsement of Vice President Harris for the upcoming presidential election, as announced through a social media statement.
The TNBC’s executive board shared the news via a Facebook press release, marking a visible development given that the broader Teamsters union has yet to endorse any candidate in the current presidential race.
In their statement, the caucus commended Harris alongside Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), highlighting their “steadfast commitment to workers and their families.” Last week, Harris officially named Walz as her running mate, concluding the speculation surrounding her vice-presidential selection.

“Their records showcase a profound dedication to advancing labor rights and championing the working class,” the TNBC noted. While the Teamsters have not yet made an endorsement for the 2024 election, having previously supported President Biden in 2020, it traditionally waits until after both major party conventions before making such decisions.
Speculation arose when Teamsters President Sean O’Brien addressed the Republican National Convention last month, raising questions about a potential endorsement of the GOP nominee. The Democratic National Convention has not yet revealed its speaker lineup for this month.
TNBC chair James Curbeam criticized former President Trump’s record, stating, “Trump’s history against Black people, women, and workers is inexcusable.” He further emphasized that endorsing Trump would contradict the values the caucus strives to uphold.
The Hill has sought comments from both the TNBC and the Harris campaign regarding the endorsement.
