Critics of Vice President Harris’ lack of interviews have been dismissed by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who assures that she will have ample opportunities for them in the future. During an appearance on CNN News Central on Tuesday, Murphy was asked about concerns regarding Harris’ absence from interviews.
He was also reminded of former President Trump’s recent interview with tech billionaire Elon Musk on the social media platform X. Murphy downplayed the importance of Harris not participating in interviews and took a subtle swipe at the Trump-Musk conversation.
“You might not be surprised to hear this, but I didn’t catch the Trump-Musk interview,” Murphy commented. “I can’t speak to its content, but I believe Harris has been performing exceptionally well recently. Tim Walz is an excellent choice as her running mate, and she’s been bringing a positive energy to politics.”
He added, “There will be plenty of opportunities for interviews in the future. From what I gather, last night’s event wasn’t really an interview. When Harris does sit down for interviews, they will be with real journalists.”
The Trump campaign has criticized Harris for avoiding questions from the press early in her campaign, with Harris indicating last week that she aims to have a full interview by the end of August.
The Trump-Musk discussion, which lasted about two hours, covered a broad range of topics, including Trump’s attempted assassination and his perspectives on immigration and the economy. Musk has publicly endorsed Trump for the 2024 election.
Murphy, who was succeeded as chair of the Democratic Governors Association by Walz, praised Harris for selecting Walz as her running mate, calling him an “inspired pick” and a distinguished leader.
