On Friday, former President Trump revealed the leadership team that will guide his transition efforts as he prepares for a potential return to the White House. Two of Trump’s top campaign donors, Linda McMahon and businessman Howard Lutnick, will head his official transition team.
McMahon, who led the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, and Lutnick, who is the head of financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald, will serve as co-chairs, according to Trump’s announcement.
In addition to McMahon and Lutnick, Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), will be an honorary chair, alongside Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
In a statement, Trump emphasized the forward-looking nature of the 2024 GOP Platform to Make America Great Again, asserting that his administration would fulfill its promises of safety, prosperity, and freedom for Americans. “We will restore strength, competence, and common sense to the Oval Office. I have absolute confidence the Trump-Vance Administration will be ready to govern effectively on Day One,” Trump stated.
As part of standard presidential campaign procedure, naming a transition team before Election Day is essential for preparing to take office if victorious. Lutnick recently hosted a Trump fundraiser in the Hamptons, while McMahon, co-founder of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., has been leading the pro-Trump think tank America First Policy Institute.
Donald Trump Jr. has expressed his desire to influence staffing decisions for his father’s potential second administration, stating at the Republican National Convention that he wanted “veto power” to prevent untrustworthy individuals from being appointed. “I want to block the liars… I just want to be a block,” he said.
