On Thursday evening, Stacey Abrams, who previously ran for Georgia governor, sharply criticized Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), the GOP’s vice presidential pick, accusing him of lacking understanding and empathy towards women’s realities in America. Speaking on MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight,” Abrams condemned Vance for his repeated dismissiveness of women’s issues and his reductionist views on their lives, urging viewers to ignore his comments.
Abrams also challenged Vance’s 2021 statements, where he expressed frustration over her criticism of a Georgia abortion restriction bill, claiming such legislation negatively impacts business interests. Vance had suggested that large corporations oppose abortion restrictions because they prioritize inexpensive labor and are hesitant to support family growth.
In her rebuttal, Abrams underscored that the right for women to manage their own bodies is crucial for their education, economic opportunities, and family decisions. She warned that companies backing restrictive policies are making misguided choices.
Additionally, Vance has been scrutinized for derogatory remarks about “childless cat ladies” supposedly running the country, suggesting they project their dissatisfaction onto others. Vance recently defended these comments on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” describing them as sarcastic and asserting that parenthood seriously alters one’s outlook.
Abrams also commented on Vice President Harris’s campaign strategy in Georgia, praising Harris’s understanding of the state’s critical role. Despite trailing former President Trump by 2.1 points in recent Georgia polls, Abrams highlighted Harris’s commitment to contesting the state vigorously.
