Democratic strategist Van Jones believes former President Trump is undermining his own chances in the presidential race against Vice President Harris. Speaking on CNN’s “The Source” with Pamela Brown, Jones emphasized that if Harris maintains her optimism, she will continue to advance in her campaign.
Regarding Trump, Jones remarked that his erratic behavior is likely to contribute to his decline in the race. Harris has rejuvenated Democratic enthusiasm since launching her campaign following President Biden‘s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race last month.
Biden promptly endorsed his vice president after announcing his exit. Jones urged Democrats to remain focused on their strengths, highlighting the positive, hopeful, and change-driven message that is resonating with voters.
Meanwhile, Republicans have encouraged Trump to concentrate on policy rather than personal attacks, particularly in light of his recent criticisms of Harris after she began her campaign. Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s former adviser, suggested that a successful strategy for Trump would involve reducing the number of insults.
Harris has seen a boost in recent polls, leading Trump by 1.8 points in an average of national polls conducted by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ. Additionally, she holds a 4-point lead over Trump in key battleground states—Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—according to a recent poll by The New York Times/Siena College.
