John Kasich, former Ohio Governor, recently aimed former President Trump’s attacks on Vice President Harris, arguing that they follow the same unsuccessful pattern as in 2020 and are likely to produce similar results.
In an MSNBC interview on Friday, Kasich pointed out, “Trump is replicating his 2020 tactics, which could lead to a repeat of that outcome. If the campaign becomes a clash of personalities between him and Harris, he’s unlikely to win. On the other hand, if the debate centers on policy and achievements, he stands a better chance.”
Kasich, who ran against Trump in the 2016 GOP primary and later supported President Biden, commended Harris for shifting her focus to economic issues. “She’s begun to address the public’s discontent with the economy, a move Biden should have made sooner. To her credit, she’s recognizing this issue,” he commented.
Harris presented her economic plan during a rally in North Carolina on Friday, which includes proposals for a federal ban on price gouging and an increase in the Child Tax Credit.
Kasich cautioned that Democrats may face challenges in making a compelling economic case due to their recent control of the White House. “That’s a vulnerability for Democrats, which Trump isn’t capitalizing on,” he told MSNBC’s Ryan Nobles.
Kasich criticized Trump for his focus on personal attacks instead of substantial policy discussions, noting, “Trump often veers off from critical issues and engages only with his base. This strategy, seen in 2020, contributed to his defeat.”
Despite advice from within his party to concentrate on policy, Trump has defended his personal attacks on Harris, asserting they are warranted. “I’m extremely frustrated with her impact on the country,” Trump stated Thursday. “I believe I have the right to express my criticism, particularly regarding her intelligence and her potential presidency.”
