Former President Obama highlighted the tight race ahead between Vice President Harris and former President Trump, emphasizing the critical nature of the upcoming election while criticizing Trump as dangerous, chaotic, and unsympathetic.
“This election will be closely contested in a divided nation where many Americans are struggling and have lost faith in the government’s ability to help. Tonight, voters are asking a fundamental question: ‘Who will fight for me and my family’s future?’” Obama said. “One thing is clear: Donald Trump is not losing sleep over these concerns,” he added.
Obama accused Trump of persistently complaining about his issues and being anxious about losing to Harris. He also criticized Trump for promoting conspiracy theories and fixating on trivial matters like crowd sizes.
Describing Trump as a disruptive presence, Obama compared him to a neighbor who constantly runs a leaf blower, which is exhausting when it’s a neighbor but dangerous when it’s a president.
Obama rejected the idea of enduring four more years of Trump’s chaos, asserting that history shows such scenarios only worsen.
In his speech, which was met with enthusiasm in Illinois, Obama praised Harris’s achievements and her recent plan to build housing and improve health care by expanding the Affordable Care Act. He highlighted Harris’s readiness to be president, invoking his campaign slogan, “Yes, she can,” which elicited chants from the crowd.
Obama also expressed a strong desire for national unity and renewal, inspired by the positive momentum around Harris’s campaign. He concluded by reaffirming his support for Biden, calling him a remarkable president and a cherished friend, with the crowd responding with chants of “Thank you, Joe.”
