In a revealing discussion on Theo Von’s podcast, former President Trump inquired about the effects of cocaine addiction, specifically asking if the drug delivers a “stronger up.”
On Tuesday’s “This Past Weekend” episode, Von shared his personal journey with cocaine and addiction, disclosing that he has since ceased using the drug. Trump probed whether the drug became “too much to handle.”
Von recounted the unsettling experience of using cocaine, saying, “Some of the stuff started to get a real rattle in it too. I don’t even know where we were getting it from, but it began to make me feel like a mechanic or something.”
Trump then questioned if alcohol had become a substitute for cocaine. Von confirmed this, explaining that while he still craved cocaine, he turned to alcohol. “But what I want probably is cocaine,” Von admitted, “but I know that if I have a drink, then it’ll give me — it’ll be like, OK, well, I had a drink, then I can do this.”
Trump further asked if cocaine offered a more intense high.
“Yeah,” Von responded. “Cocaine will uplift you more than anything else. It turns you into a kind of owl, so to speak. You’ll be outside, like your own streetlamp.”
When Trump asked if that feeling was positive, Von described it as “miserable,” but acknowledged that people continue using it, similar to a person’s reliance on alcohol.
In addition to discussing addiction, Trump touched on various issues including health care, the opioid crisis, and the U.S.-Mexico border. Last week, Von also interviewed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on his podcast, focusing on health care topics.
