Women’s Support Gives Harris a 13-Point Lead Over Trump: Poll

U.S Vice President Kamala Harris

A recent poll shows Vice President Harris leading former President Trump by 13 points among women voters, a serious advantage as the November election approaches.

According to the Economist/YouGov survey, 51% of female registered voters back Harris, while 38% support Trump. Conversely, Trump has a 7-point edge among men, underscoring his ongoing challenges with female voters.

Women have played a crucial role in recent elections, initially fueling the Democratic gains in the 2018 midterms and later being mobilized by the 2022 Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. This voting bloc is now a key component of Harris’s campaign strategy.

The same poll shows Harris with a narrow overall lead in the presidential race, holding 46% support compared to Trump’s 43%. This represents a shift from when Biden was trailing Trump shortly before his exit from the race.

Enthusiasm among Democrats is high, with 70% expressing strong interest in voting this year, compared to 60% of Republicans. This marks a reversal from July, when Republican enthusiasm was higher.

Harris’s net favorability rating is better than Trump’s, standing at negative 1 point versus negative 10 points for Trump. As the first female vice president, Harris aims to become the first female president. The poll, which surveyed 1,271 registered voters from August 17-20, has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
