Trump Questions Harris’s Legitimacy as Presumptive Nominee, Criticizes Her Record and Biden’s Withdrawal

Donald Trump has publicly questioned Kamala Harris’s right to run for the presidency, arguing that her likely nomination by the Democratic Party without winning the primary is a “threat to democracy.” In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump attacked Harris’s record on crime, calling her the “Weakest Presidential Candidate in History on Crime.”

Harris’s position as the presumptive Democratic nominee came after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed her. Although Biden had won the Democratic primary decisively, he faced growing pressure within his party to step aside due to concerns about his age and mental fitness. Trump’s criticism focuses on Harris’s previous lack of success in the 2020 primary, questioning her legitimacy as the Democratic candidate, especially given her early withdrawal from that race.

In his post, Trump also criticized Harris’s handling of border security, accusing her of allowing criminals and terrorists into the country. He questioned her right to the nomination, citing her lack of primary votes compared to Biden’s 14 million and framing her candidacy as a danger to the nation. Trump further described Biden’s withdrawal as a “coup,” expressing concern over the manner in which Biden was pressured to leave the race.

Despite Trump’s sharp criticism, polling data suggests that Harris has a slight lead over him. According to a recent analysis by FiveThirtyEight, Harris is leading Trump by 3.7 points, with 47.3 percent of the vote compared to Trump’s 43.6 percent. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is also in the race, polling at 4.7 percent, but his support is considerably lower.

The dynamics of the race were further complicated when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that he was partially withdrawing from the presidential race. Kennedy encouraged his supporters to vote for Trump in battleground states but suggested they still vote for him in solidly Republican or Democratic states. This move could potentially influence the election’s outcome, adding another layer of uncertainty to the race.
