Ty Cobb Foresees Trump’s Indifference to New Indictment Until Final Gavel Falls

Ty Cobb anticipated that Trump’s legal team would employ stalling strategies

Ty Cobb, who previously served as President Trump’s attorney, remarked on Tuesday that Trump will not consider the new indictment serious until the court process reaches its final stages, including a verdict and sentencing. In an interview on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront,” Cobb suggested that Trump’s response to the indictment will remain dismissive until the legal process concludes decisively.

The updated indictment, filed by special counsel Jack Smith, revisits the charges related to Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election. This latest filing retains the original accusations but incorporates revisions to adhere to recent Supreme Court decisions that extend presidential immunity.

Cobb anticipated that Trump’s legal team would employ stalling strategies, noting that the new indictment, while essentially similar to the previous one, is not simply a repetition. He dismissed Trump’s characterization of the indictment as a continuation of a failed investigation, asserting that the adjustments reflect legitimate legal developments rather than procedural redundancy.

Trump, for his part, condemned the indictment as an “absurd” attempt to reinvigorate a discredited investigation, claiming it mirrors the issues of the earlier charges and should be dismissed immediately. He criticized special counsel Smith’s actions as politically motivated.

Additionally, Ohio Senator JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, attacked the superseding indictment as a politically motivated maneuver. Although Vance admitted he had not reviewed the document in full, he accused Smith of using legal proceedings to influence the upcoming election. He referenced the Supreme Court’s dismissal of Smith’s prior lawsuit as a reinforcement of presidential immunity for official actions.
