Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz (D) shared on social media Friday that the Margate Police Department, located in his district, had notified him the day before the election about a “potential plot” to harm him.
According to Moskowitz, a man was apprehended near his residence carrying a rifle, suppressor, and body armor. The individual, who also reportedly had a manifesto, included antisemitic messages and listed Moskowitz’s name as the only target.
Moskowitz, who is Jewish, stated that there are additional details regarding the case that he cannot yet disclose due to the ongoing investigation. He expressed his gratitude to various law enforcement agencies, including the local police, U.S. Marshals, the FBI, U.S. Capitol Police, and the U.S. Attorney’s office for their efforts.
Reflecting on his experience, Moskowitz emphasized his concerns for the safety of congressional members. “Having been appointed to the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, I understand the importance of improving security for our leaders,” he remarked.
However, he also voiced his deep concern about the lack of adequate security when members of Congress are in their districts. “We all have families to protect, regardless of political differences,” he concluded.
