Elon Musk participated in a call earlier this week with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, alongside President-elect Trump, highlighting Musk’s close ties to Trump as he prepares to assume the presidency. A source confirmed to NewsNation, The Hill’s partner network, that Musk joined Trump’s conversation with Zelensky on Wednesday.
Trump has been in contact with several global leaders following his victory in the presidential race. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team, declined to publicly confirm details of the call, stating, “We do not comment on private meetings or conversations.”
Axios was the first to report Musk’s involvement in the call, noting that he expressed his intention to continue supporting Ukraine through his company’s Starlink satellites, which provide internet service.
Zelensky described the conversation as “productive” and “good,” though he acknowledged the uncertainty of Trump’s future actions. “We cannot yet know what his actions will be,” Zelensky said, adding, “But we do hope that America will become stronger.”
Trump’s election could pose challenges for continued U.S. aid to Ukraine as it battles Russian forces. Both Trump and his allies have criticized ongoing U.S. support, with Trump asserting that European nations should take on a larger share of the financial responsibility, given the conflict’s proximity to their region.
Trump has also claimed that he could end the war between Ukraine and Russia before even assuming office in January, though critics fear that any peace deal might involve giving up Ukrainian territory to Russia.
