On Saturday, President-elect Trump revealed that former Ambassador Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would not be joining his upcoming administration.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation.
I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Earlier in March, Pompeo had expressed openness to taking a position in the Trump administration, telling Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, “I don’t often comment on jobs I’ve not been offered,” adding, “But if I get a chance to serve and think that I can make a difference, I’m almost certainly going to say yes to that opportunity to try and deliver on behalf of the American people.”
Haley, although on standby to assist Trump during his campaign, did not appear on the campaign trail with him. She publicly congratulated him on Wednesday after the 2024 election results declared Trump the winner, writing on X, “The American people have spoken.
Congratulations to President Trump on a strong win. Now, it’s time for the American people to come together, pray for our country, and start the process of a peaceful transition.”
Following Trump’s announcement about Haley not being invited to join his administration, she issued a statement once again praising him for his defense of the nation.
“I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations. I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years,” Haley wrote on X.
The former president also shared the appointments of longtime senior aide Susie Wilkes as chief of staff, and former Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Steve Witkoff as co-chairs of the Trump, Vance inauguration.
