Following President-elect Trump’s victory, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans to convene with world leaders to discuss the escalating situation in Ukraine.
According to Tusk, the political shift resulting from Trump’s win presents a serious challenge, particularly with the possibility of an agreement between Russia’s president and the new U.S. president that could bring an end to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Tusk highlighted these concerns in a report from Reuters on Saturday. Tusk further stated, “In the coming days, we will coordinate intensively with countries that share similar views on the geopolitical and transatlantic situation, especially concerning Ukraine.”
He is set to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss these issues.
This meeting comes shortly after Trump’s electoral win, which has already stirred concerns regarding his stance on the war in Ukraine, as he has publicly criticized the U.S. financial aid to Ukraine’s military efforts. There is uncertainty about how Trump’s proposed swift resolution of the conflict will reveal.
He has already engaged in talks with leaders like South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, as reported by Bloomberg, following news of North Korean soldiers being deployed to assist Russia on the frontlines. In addition to these meetings, Tusk plans to engage with Nordic and Baltic leaders in Stockholm soon.
