Republicans Aim for Trifecta as Democrats Analyze What Went Wrong on Sunday Shows

Republicans Eye House Majority to Complete Trifecta After 2024 Election Wins

With hopes of securing a trifecta, Republicans aim to maintain their grip on the House after gaining control of the Senate and winning the White House in the 2024 election, where President-elect Trump triumphed over Vice President Harris.

Meanwhile, Democrats are grappling with their loss, reflecting on what went wrong and who should be held accountable. These issues are expected to dominate discussions on this week’s Sunday political shows.

Senator Sanders to Appear on Sunday Shows, Addressing Democratic Party’s Path Forward

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) blamed the Democratic Party’s neglect of working-class voters as the primary reason for their defeat in both the presidential race and the Senate.

The independent senator, who aligns with Democrats, is scheduled to appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CNN’s “State of the Union” this Sunday, where he is expected to address the party’s failures and its future direction.

Representative Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), who briefly campaigned for president earlier this year before ending his bid in March, said this week that Trump’s movement has proven to be more than a transient phenomenon.

He believes it took Democrats by surprise. Phillips will appear on “Fox News Sunday,” where he is likely to analyze the White House election results and suggest what his party should focus on next.

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), who served as Trump’s ambassador to Japan, has been discussed as a possible contender for national security positions, including Secretary of State. Hagerty will join CBS’s “Face the Nation” to discuss the GOP’s Senate victory and his potential role in a future Trump administration.

Representative Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) secured a second term representing New York’s 17th Congressional District, defeating former Representative Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.). He will appear on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” likely discussing the outcome of New York’s House races and whether Republicans are closer to gaining a majority in the lower chamber.

David McCormick, the Republican Senate candidate from Pennsylvania, was projected by The Associated Press to have defeated incumbent Senator Bob Casey (D). McCormick will join Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures” to discuss the ongoing race and the potential for a recount, with Decision Desk HQ yet to officially call the race.
