Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) expressed support for Vice President Harris’s efforts in the recent presidential election, describing her campaign as her “very best” while also urging the Democratic Party to focus on introspection and forward-looking strategy.
Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union with Dana Bash, Sanders was asked for his perspective on President Biden’s decision to step aside and whether it was the right choice. “I don’t want to focus on the past.
We need to look ahead, not behind us. Kamala put in her best effort, won her debate with Trump, and worked tirelessly,” Sanders emphasized, advocating for a forward-thinking approach.
While calling for the party to look ahead, Sanders also suggested that Democrats need to reassess their approach, not merely their messaging, but their understanding of the electorate’s concerns. He pointed to a disconnect between the party’s strategies and the needs of ordinary Americans.
“The reality is clear: the working class in this country is frustrated, and their anger is justified,” Sanders said, referencing Tuesday’s election outcome. “Today, we have an economy where the wealthiest are thriving, while 60 percent of Americans are struggling just to get by.” Sanders’s remarks were among the most critical assessments of the Democratic Party’s position following President-elect Trump’s victory.
