President Biden and Vice President Harris are set to appear together for the first time since last week’s election, attending a Veterans Day event at Arlington National Cemetery. At the ceremony, they will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, joined by First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, according to a White House statement.
Harris will also accompany Biden as he delivers remarks at the Arlington Cemetery amphitheater. Last week, Harris lost the presidential race to President-elect Trump, who secured victories in all seven key battleground states and is poised to claim the popular vote. Blame has since circulated within the party regarding responsibility for Harris’s loss.
Harris became the Democratic nominee in late July, stepping in after Biden suspended his campaign despite concerns from lawmakers about his competitiveness against Trump. Following the election, both Harris and Biden addressed their supporters, pledging a peaceful transition of power and encouraging their followers to stay committed to their shared values.
Biden commended Harris for leading a campaign that he called “inspiring.” “Her dedication was unwavering, and both she and her team should take pride in the campaign they conducted,” Biden remarked.
