Caraveo Acknowledges Loss in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District

Rep. Yadira Caraveo concedes defeat to Gabe Evans in tight Colorado House race

Rep. Yadira Caraveo (D-Colo.) acknowledged her defeat in the reelection race to Republican Gabe Evans on Sunday, marking a victory for the GOP as they edge closer to regaining control of the House. Although The Hill/Decision Desk HQ has yet to officially call the close contest for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, Caraveo conceded the race.

“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Colorado’s 8th district,” Caraveo stated on Sunday. “I came to Congress to make progress, and for the past two years, I’ve worked to build bipartisan solutions to address the challenges facing our community.”

She expressed gratitude to her supporters and highlighted the campaign’s diverse coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters. “While the result wasn’t what we had hoped for, the work continues,” Caraveo added. “I’m committed to finishing my term and remaining an independent voice for this district.”

Shortly after her concession, Evans shared his excitement about serving the district, thanking his wife, campaign team, and even Caraveo for her service. “I am deeply honored to be chosen as the next Congressman for Colorado’s 8th district,” Evans wrote. “I’m ready to fight for a better future for all Coloradans.”

He also expressed appreciation for Caraveo’s graciousness and willingness to collaborate during the transition. With over 95 percent of the vote counted, Evans was leading Caraveo by fewer than 2,600 votes, a margin of 49 percent to 48.2 percent.

Other candidates in the race had no impact on the final result, as both Approval Voting Party’s Chris Baum and Unity Party’s Susan Hall had a combined total that exceeded the gap between the top two contenders.

This latest outcome brings Republicans closer to securing a majority in the House, with Caraveo’s race among the 10 remaining contests still uncalled following last week’s elections.
