Bill O’Reilly, the former Fox News host, predicted that President-elect Trump will face no opposition from Republicans in Congress now that the GOP controls both the House and Senate. He described this moment as a “unique time in history,” offering the former president a “free-fire zone” to pursue his agenda without resistance.
Speaking on NewsNation’s On Balance, O’Reilly stated that no Republican Congressperson would oppose Trump’s initiatives, although he noted that Democratic lawmakers would likely remain opposed to his policies.
He drew a comparison between Trump’s potential second term and that of former President Grover Cleveland, the only other nonconsecutive president, highlighting that, unlike Cleveland, Trump would likely have a cooperative Republican majority in Congress.
O’Reilly recommended that the president-elect focus on five or six key pieces of legislation, including border security, immigration reform, tax cuts, and laws targeting sanctuary cities. He argued these issues would be difficult to oppose and would likely gain widespread support.
Additionally, O’Reilly suggested that Trump could address cultural challenges by passing carefully crafted legislation capable of withstanding scrutiny in federal courts. He emphasized the importance of making strategic moves to ensure legal success.
On Cabinet appointments, O’Reilly stressed the need for experienced advisers who would be loyal to Trump yet unafraid to speak their minds. He contrasted this approach with that of former President Jimmy Carter, whose administration, according to O’Reilly, suffered due to the inclusion of inexperienced “cronies” in key positions.
Trump has already begun announcing his Cabinet picks, including naming Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and Marco Rubio as secretary of state.
