The New York Times initially reported Trump’s intent to nominate Rubio, prompting congratulations from lawmakers and Trump allies online. Senator Rick Scott praised Rubio’s leadership and dedication to representing American interests globally, especially in Latin America, saying it has been a privilege to work alongside him in Florida.

Known for his strong stance on foreign policy, Rubio advocates for a tough approach toward China and Iran. In a September interview, he remarked that a peace settlement would likely conclude the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Trump, meanwhile, has vowed to reinstate his “America First” foreign policy, expressing doubts about U.S. involvement in Ukraine’s defense and urging NATO allies to increase their support.
Rubio’s appointment follows Trump’s swift selection of his national security team, including Rep. Elise Stefanik as UN Ambassador and Rep. Mike Waltz as National Security Adviser.
Rubio’s expected confirmation would temporarily reduce the GOP’s Senate majority, with Governor Ron DeSantis tasked with appointing a replacement until the next statewide election.
