Melania Trump will not be accompanying President-elect Trump to the White House for Wednesday’s meeting, which is set to underscore a peaceful transfer of power. In a social media statement from her office, Melania confirmed she “will not be attending” the planned meeting between her husband and President Biden.
The statement expressed her support for her husband’s return to the Oval Office to initiate the transition and conveyed her wishes for his success. Additionally, it criticized “unnamed sources in the media” for spreading “false, misleading, and inaccurate information.”
The message advised the public to carefully evaluate news sources without detailing specific inaccuracies. Reports speculating that Melania Trump might be absent from the White House visit surfaced across multiple outlets prior to the event. Throughout her husband’s 2024 campaign, the former first lady, who is also a mother and former model, was noticeably absent from most campaign events.
The upcoming meeting will be Trump’s first time back in the White House since his departure on the morning of President Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, following his decision not to concede the 2020 election.
Although Trump did not extend a White House invitation to the Bidens after the 2020 election, Melania Trump recounted in her memoir her acceptance of an invitation from the Obamas to tour the White House after her husband’s 2016 victory.
Melania wrote about this experience in Melania, describing how the Obamas led her to the Oval Office, where Michelle Obama kindly offered her a tour. “We started with tea in the Yellow Oval Room, talking about life in the White House. Michelle was open and thoughtful in answering my questions and sharing advice.”
Reflecting on their shared experiences, Melania noted that Michelle, having raised young daughters when her husband took office, understood what lay ahead for Melania and her son Barron. Contrary to media speculation, Melania described their interaction as “cordial and pleasant.”
