Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) as attorney general, calling it a “f‑‑‑ you to America.” Appearing on CNN’s “OutFront,” Cobb explained his remarks to Erin Burnett, emphasizing how shocking and intentional the nomination seemed.
Cobb stated, “Trump is a disrupter,” and added that Gaetz was “simply unqualified” across several aspects—academically, professionally, ethically, morally, and experientially. He shared his experiences from when Gaetz visited the White House, noting how staffers would raise concerns and avoid engaging with him, hoping he wouldn’t seek out their attention.

“This is just not a serious choice,” Cobb remarked, underscoring his disapproval of the nomination. Trump’s selection of Gaetz signaled a bold move to follow through with campaign promises. Gaetz, who immediately resigned from Congress after receiving the nomination, has been a loyal ally to Trump, despite past investigations by the Justice Department.
The nomination raised concerns among critics who feared that the department might target Trump’s political opponents, a sentiment Trump had previously voiced during his campaign.
The reaction within the Republican Party was mixed. While South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham encouraged fellow Republicans to “give Matt a chance,” other members questioned Gaetz’s qualifications and his chances of confirmation by the Senate. Democrats, on the other hand, warned about the potential implications for democracy if Gaetz were confirmed.
