House Ethics Chair Clarifies Meeting on Gaetz Report Postponed, Not Canceled

Michael Guest confirms House Ethics Committee postpones, not cancels, discussion on Matt Gaetz report

On Friday morning, Michael Guest, chair of the House Ethics Committee, clarified that the committee had only postponed its meeting to discuss the report on Matt Gaetz, not canceled it. The committee is still awaiting a proper session before any further steps can be taken regarding the findings.

Guest (R-Miss.) refrained from commenting on whether the report would be shared with the Senate Judiciary Committee, despite some senators expressing interest in reviewing it as they assess Gaetz’s suitability for the role of attorney general in Donald Trump’s administration.

Guest dismisses concerns of political pressure influencing the handling of the Gaetz report

According to Guest, the committee members must meet first before any information can be disclosed. “We have not met as a committee yet, so at this point, there’s nothing I can comment on,” Guest explained, adding that the meeting would be rescheduled in due time.

Addressing concerns about potential pressure or retaliation from Trump’s political circle, Guest denied any worries about releasing the report. He dismissed suggestions that political influence or retribution played a role in delaying the meeting.

Additionally, he confirmed that no leadership within the committee had approached him about taking any particular stance regarding the report. “I’ve had no conversations with leadership about it,” Guest said, emphasizing his position of impartiality.
