Steven Cheung, who has been a key press aide for the Trump campaign over the past two years, will be stepping into the role of White House communications director in the incoming administration, as announced by President-elect Trump on Friday.
Though Cheung has not been a prominent figure on television like some of Trump’s other staff, he has held communications roles for the former president, working on both the 2016 and 2020 campaigns.
Before his current role, Cheung also served as a communications leader for the UFC, an organization led by Trump ally Dana White. Known for his outspoken presence on social media, Cheung has built a reputation for his combative style.
As of now, Trump has not yet named a press secretary, a position typically more visible in the White House. Karoline Leavitt, the campaign’s national press secretary, is considered a likely candidate for the role. Politico was the first to report on Cheung’s upcoming position.
Cheung’s appointment adds to the growing list of long-time campaign aides who are securing key roles in Trump’s administration. Earlier this week, Trump revealed that Dan Scavino, Stephen Miller, James Blair, and Taylor Budowich would also be taking senior staff positions following their influential roles on the campaign trail.
