Indivisible Launches Strategy for Second Term Initiatives

Indivisible’s roadmap targets Democratic victories in the 2026 midterms

A progressive organization has introduced a new strategy aimed at energizing left-leaning political movements and countering former President Trump’s initiatives during his anticipated second term. The group, Indivisible, presented its “Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink” with a pointed declaration: “If there’s one universally accepted truth in the modern age, it’s that sequels suck. And Trump 2.0 will be no exception.”

Emerging from the viral success of a 2016 organizing guide crafted by former congressional staffers after Trump’s initial election, Indivisible uncovered its latest roadmap during a call that reportedly drew 31,000 participants.

Attorney General Rob Bonta prepares to challenge MAGA initiatives

The strategy outlines targeted opposition to “MAGA policies” and the GOP’s Project 2025, aiming to spark national backlash and secure Democratic victories in the 2026 midterm elections. The plan underscores the urgency of acting quickly, noting that while midterm wins won’t entirely safeguard democracy, they can offer a critical opportunity.

Blue states are projected to play a pivotal role in resisting Republican policies under the incoming administration, with Democratic governors and attorneys general signaling their readiness to stand firm. California Governor Gavin Newsom, for instance, has pledged to “Trump-proof” state laws, convening a special legislative session to protect progressive policies.

Similarly, Attorney General Rob Bonta has been monitoring Trump’s rhetoric and the Project 2025 agenda, preparing to counter measures such as mass deportations and restrictions on reproductive rights.

The Indivisible guide emphasizes the importance of 2026, as those elected will oversee the 2028 election, a crucial moment for preserving democratic integrity. Efforts will focus on reclaiming congressional seats and preventing election deniers from gaining power, thus safeguarding the transfer of power in future elections.

President-elect Trump recently hinted at pursuing a third term, a notion barred by the Constitution, in remarks that some interpreted as a joke. Meanwhile, Indivisible’s co-founder Ezra Levin acknowledged the challenges ahead, stressing the importance of leveraging existing federal, state, and local power structures to counteract Trump’s influence.

Other progressive groups, including MoveOn, Public Citizen, and the Working Families Party, have similarly ramped up organizing efforts. These coalitions aim to strengthen Democratic alliances and prepare for the upcoming midterms, laying the groundwork for sustained resistance against Trump’s policies.
