On Tuesday, BJP leaders organized a protest against the AAP government, distributing face masks in the city’s most polluted areas, Anand Vihar and ITO, as Delhi faced severe air pollution.
During the mask distribution and awareness drive in Anand Vihar, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva criticized AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi for their lack of action in addressing the pollution crisis. He accused them of focusing on defending the Punjab government’s inaction on stubble burning, which he said worsens the pollution in Delhi, while ignoring the city’s local issues.
Sachdeva added, “The people of Delhi are struggling for their breaths while Kejriwal and Atishi are defending the AAP government in Punjab, where crop stubble burning is choking the national capital. The condition of damaged roads and dust pollution has worsened the situation further.”
At ITO, former Union Minister Vijay Goel led another protest, condemning the AAP government’s failure to address the hazardous air quality in the city. Goel questioned how long it would take for Kejriwal to take serious action to tackle Delhi’s pollution and accused the AAP government of relying more on rhetoric than on substantial measures over the past decade.
He pointed out that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in parts of Delhi had reached 500, with some areas hitting as high as 1133. Goel criticized the AAP government for turning Delhi into a “gas chamber,” claiming that residents could no longer even go for a morning walk due to the severe pollution.
