Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), selected by President-elect Trump to serve as his national security adviser, confirmed on Sunday that the Trump transition team is working in close coordination with the Biden administration on national security matters.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday with Gillian Turner, Waltz shared that he and Jake Sullivan, President Biden’s national security adviser, have already met and had discussions. “Jake and I have been in talks. We’ve already met,” he stated.
Waltz made it clear that any foreign adversaries trying to exploit the transition period would be mistaken in their thinking. “For those who believe they can exploit this time of transition, they’re wrong. We are fully united. We’re working as one team during this transition,” he remarked.
In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump praised Waltz, describing him as a seasoned expert on the threats from China, Russia, Iran, and global terrorism. Trump also emphasized Waltz’s strong support for his “America First Foreign Policy” and his dedication to advancing peace through strength.
The 2024 election was a chaotic and divisive event, with Trump facing assassination threats, a major shift in the Democratic Party’s top candidate, and a polarized political atmosphere. After the tense election season, President Biden and President-elect Trump met in the Oval Office earlier this month, with Biden expressing optimism for a seamless transition.
Trump responded with, “It will be as smooth as it can get, and I greatly appreciate that, Joe.” During his appearance on Fox News Sunday, Waltz further highlighted that Trump has a clear mandate to continue implementing his national security agenda and to build on the achievements of his first term in office.
