On Wednesday, Trump announced that he has requested Michael Whatley to continue serving as chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) after the party’s successful election cycle in 2024. In a post on Truth Social, he commended Whatley, referring to him as a “smart, tough lawyer,” and highlighted the RNC’s efforts to ensure election integrity by contesting certain ballot collection and counting rulings from the recent elections.
The president-elect expressed his confidence in Whatley and Lara Trump, noting their work in transforming the RNC into a “lean, focused, and powerful machine” that will advance the America First Agenda for years. He also acknowledged Lara Trump’s contributions as co-chair of the committee.

“I have asked Michael to return as Chairman of the RNC to continue to build our Party, and be a trusted partner as we Make America Great Again, and ensure Free and Fair Elections,” Trump stated, urging Republicans to support Whatley in his ongoing mission at the RNC.
Earlier this year, Whatley was elected as RNC chair after Ronna McDaniel stepped down. He has a history of leadership, having previously served as chair of the North Carolina GOP and as general counsel for the RNC. Typically, the party chair serves a two-year term.
However, with Trump resuming his role in the White House, he effectively has the authority to choose the leadership of the RNC. Lara Trump is also being considered as a potential successor to Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) if Rubio is confirmed as Secretary of State.
