In a recent report by The New York Times, OpenAI’s CEO expressed skepticism about Elon Musk’s potential influence in the forthcoming Trump administration. Sam Altman dismissed the idea that Musk would leverage his relationship with Trump to target OpenAI.
During remarks at The New York Times DealBook Summit, Altman stated, “I believe pretty strongly that Elon will do the right thing and that it would be profoundly un-American to use political power to the degree that Elon would hurt competitors and advantage his own businesses.”
The relationship between Musk and OpenAI has been tumultuous, highlighted by a series of lawsuits Musk has filed against the company in recent months. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI with Altman and Greg Brockman, has accused them of misleading him about their mission to develop safe and transparent artificial intelligence.
In addition to his legal battles with OpenAI, Musk has been a prominent supporter of Trump’s presidential campaign this year, participating in several rallies and establishing a pro-Trump super PAC named America PAC, which has contributed $118 million to the effort.
On Election Night, Trump included Musk and his son in a family photo, remarking, “We have to get Elon with his boy,” and complimenting Musk’s son as “gorgeous” and “perfect.”
Reporters have reached out to both X and the Trump transition team for their responses to this situation.
