Matt Gaetz and Hunter Biden Mocked in Church Lady Segment on ‘SNL’ Cold Open

SNL's Church Lady takes a sharp jab at Hunter Biden and Matt Gaetz

A recent skit on “Saturday Night Live” took aim at Hunter Biden and former Rep. Matt Gaetz, portraying them as “sinners” who have managed to escape full accountability in the public eye. Dana Carvey made a return as the iconic “Church Lady,” bringing humor to a scene where the character interviewed Hunter Biden, played by David Spade, about President Biden’s decision to grant him a presidential pardon.

During the interaction, the Church Lady corrected Hunter Biden for addressing her improperly. Spade’s character responded with a cheeky, “Oh, well, pardon me,” prompting the Church Lady to reply, “Pardon you? Who do you think I am, your daddy?”

The quip drew laughs, and Spade’s Hunter followed up with, “All right, yes, my father did pardon me, but I thought it was a good thing for the father to forgive the son.” Spade’s portrayal of Hunter also made a parallel between his situation and that of President-elect Trump. “They singled me out just because of who I am,” he said in character. “Much like Trump, they went after me because of my last name, and all the illegal things I did.”

President Biden, defending his actions, announced last week that he had pardoned his son, asserting the charges were politically motivated. The pardon absolved Hunter Biden in two federal cases, including gun-related charges in 2018 and multiple tax offenses to which he pleaded guilty in September.

The skit transitioned to Gaetz, played by Sarah Sherman, as Carvey’s Church Lady zeroed in on the House Ethics Committee’s findings of alleged misconduct. The report, which remains unpublished, was humorously referenced. “You were involved in some se*xual peccadillos, and they wrote a whole report about it, but somehow we never got to see it, did we?” Carvey joked. Sherman’s Gaetz quipped in response, “For me, it is, yes.”

The Ethics Committee had been investigating Gaetz for over three years, delving into allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use, and obstruction of government investigations. However, the inquiry ceased following Gaetz’s resignation from Congress last month, as the committee lacks authority over former lawmakers.

Gaetz has consistently denied the allegations. The Church Lady concluded with a sharp remark, urging Gaetz to repent before Christmas. In response, Gaetz’s character delivered the punchline, “You had me at 17.”
