Romney Asserts: ‘You Can’t Complain’ If Trump Follows Through on Promises

Mitt Romney says Americans can’t complain if Trump delivers on campaign promises

The American public, according to Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), has no grounds to complain if President-elect Trump follows through on his campaign promises. During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Romney stated, “Donald Trump won.

He won overwhelmingly. He said what he was going to do, and that’s what he’s doing.” He acknowledged that while some may express dissatisfaction with certain appointments or policies, these were all part of Trump’s campaign platform.

Romney hopes Trump’s next term focuses on the future, not past grievances

“Therefore, you can’t complain about someone who does what he said he was going to do,” he added. Romney, who has served in the Senate since 2019 and announced his retirement last year, sees this as an opportunity for a new generation of leaders.

While he has been critical of Trump, Romney noted that he shares agreement with the president-elect on many policy issues. He did not support Trump in the last two elections due to character disagreements. “I disagree with him on some things, but it’s like, OK, give him a chance to do what he says he’s going to do and see how it works out,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, Romney expressed hope that Trump’s next term will focus on the future rather than dwelling on past grievances. In his farewell address earlier this month, he emphasized the need for bipartisanship and urged lawmakers to unite despite the increasing party divides.
