On Monday, President-elect Trump suggested that the Biden administration is aware of the recent surge in drone sightings across the Northeast, implying that these incidents are not linked to hostile foreign entities and questioning why officials have not been more transparent.
“The government knows what is happening. Look, our military knows where they took off from; if it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went,” he remarked to reporters at Mar-a-Lago.
He added, “And for some reason, they don’t want to comment. I think they’d be better off saying what it is. Our military knows, and our president knows, and for some reason they want to keep people in suspense.”
While Trump did not confirm whether he had received an intelligence briefing regarding the drone sightings, he downplayed the idea that they could be attributed to a foreign adversary, citing the U.S. military’s response. “If it was the enemy, they’d blast it out. Even if they were late, they’d blast it. Something strange is going on. For some reason, they don’t want to tell the people,” he stated.
Officials from the Biden administration have maintained that there is no evidence indicating foreign involvement in the drone sightings reported by civilians and lawmakers in the Northeast in recent days.
“There’s no question that people are seeing drones. And I want to assure the American public that we, in the federal government, have deployed additional resources, personnel, technology, to assist the New Jersey State Police in addressing the drone sightings,” said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
