Man City are the 2021/22 Premier League champions. Their crowning moment came at the Ethiad stadium. Notably, this is their fourth title in the last five years. All four have come under head coach Pep Guardiola. “We are legends. We will be remembered.”, is what Guardiola had to say after the win. The Spanish manager has transformed the club since he took over. He has now won 11 titles since joining them in 2016.
City under Guardiola is never out of the game. And they showed exactly that on Sunday against Aston Villa. A final day win would guarantee the title. However, they found themselves two goals down with 15 minutes to go. But then a 5-minute display showed what they are all about. They scored three goals without reply. The scoreline read 3-2 City with nine minutes to go. They hung on to this lead. And at the end, a host of City fans stormed onto the pitch. Man City had just been crowned the Premier League champions.
At the same time, Liverpool was playing the Wolves. The equation meant that if City lost or drew, a Liverpool win would make them champions. However, Liverpool had a torrid start to their game as well. They went a goal down inside three minutes. They eventually recovered and won the game 3-1. But City winning their match meant Liverpool finished behind them in the league.
