Mithali Raj has retired from all forms of international cricket. The 39-year took to Twitter to announce the news. She retires as the scorer of the highest runs in Women’s Cricket. However, she expressed her desire to stay in touch with the sport. Notably, Raj hit a ton in her first match in ODI back in 1999. Raj took over as the captain of the Indian team in 2005. She then numerous records both as a batter and a leader. She is the only Indian skipper to lead her team to two WC finals. Also, her run to 2000 T20I runs remains the quickest in all of the Women’s Cricket.
She finishes her career in the 7th spot in the ODI player rankings. However, she will go down as one of the best in the game. Her records speak for themselves in terms of her quality as a player. The year 2005 marked the start of her captaincy reign of team India. Also, the ICC World Cup was that year itself. She led the team to the final against Australia. Raj repeated the feat in the 2009 WC as well. However, both the finals ended in defeat for the Indian team. Notably, she has played in six WC events for her team.
